Mindfulness and CBT

At Psychological Associates of Michigan we include Mindfulness techniques along with CBT.   Mindfulness is particularly used when an individual is experiencing intense emotions, which they find very disturbing; such as panic, anxiety, or sadness.  Thus, mindfulness techniques are used to transcend great suffering and cope with emotions.  Essentially, mindfulness involves learning to focus on the present moment thru conscious awareness, objectively observe ones thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations without judgement, and learning to have understanding, acceptance, and compassion for one's self and others.
